THE TEA PARTY – A LION IN WINTER?

In a development sure to upset the Democrats it is becoming apparent that support for the Tea Party is on the wane. Now the Democrats are more likely to face Republican candidates in the 2012 elections that are better qualified than the ‘Witch of Delaware’ Christine O’ Donnell or Sharon Angle who proved herself the only person in Nevada who couldn’t defeat Harry Reid.

It will not bode well for the Democrats if the Republicans buck their tradition and pick sensible candidates for office.

ITS ABOUT TIME WE LOOKED AT 2016

Andrew Cuomo - Democrat candidate 2016?

Now that the 2012 election is almost over it is time to turn our attention to 2016. It is the prediction here that the Democratic candidate for President will be Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York.

It would be interesting to suppose that Chris Christie of New Jersey would be the Republican candidate creating a recently rare North Eastern contest, but it is my belief that Christie will be way past his expiration date by then.

There is a limit to how many middle aged school teachers you can beat up on You Tube.

ROMNEY SPANKS OBAMA

Mitt Romney, trying on his ‘man of the people’ persona, slammed Obama, saying: “When the president’s characterization of our economy was, ‘It could be worse,’ it reminded me of Marie Antoinette: ‘Let them eat cake’.”

It is only in politics that one man who, when he wants to know what the ‘average Joe’ thinks, asks one of his household staff, can imply that another man, who was once a community organizer, is out of touch.

RON PAUL IN DIRE STRAITS

Ron Paul - "We don't have to worry about the Iranians, but we should worry about the blacks"

Ron Paul has an extreme isolationist position on foreign policy and after the adventurism of the last 10 years it is a good idea to be more deliberative. But lurching between extremes is incoherent.

Paul believes that sanctions against Iran are acts of war and said that the Iranians would be justified in blocking the Straits of Hormuz in response.

It is strange to be unconcerned about people who have called us the ‘Great Satan’; once took our diplomats hostage; claimed that 9/11 was a government/Jewish plot and have actively fostered terrorism against us – but also send out newsletters casting suspicion on American citizens (if they are African-American) claiming for instance that 95% of blacks in Washington DC are at least partially criminal.

Whatever you might believe is the future of energy, whether is ‘drill baby drill’ or a more considered and long term strategy of alternative energy, the inescabable fact is that today’s energy will be produced by imported oil and the smaller the supply the worse the economic outlook.

Paul may wish that the world would go away, put we live in it and we have the right and obligation to protect our interests.

I’LL MISS MICHELE

I don’t know Herman Cain or Rick Perry or Michele Bachmann. But I do know that I don’t miss Cain and I won’t miss Perry but I will miss Bachmann. Cain was smart enough to understand the issues but he couldn’t be bothered, Perry also can’t be bothered and isn’t smart but Bachmann, although her theories blinded her to the facts, worked hard at her craft.

Cain, of course, had his immorality catch up with him.

Bachmann will get her bad news on Tuesday and will do the decent thing and bow out.

Perry will also get his bad news on Tuesday, but because he has the money and a lack of imagination he will convince himself that he still has a chance and hang around (at least through South Carolina).

Election 2012, 5 Days Until the Caucus

December 29, 2011

***** BAD NEWS, GOOD NEWS FOR MICHELE BACHMANN The bad news is that a Super PAC ‘Citizens for a Working America’, originally thought to be a supporter of Bachmann instead made a $475,000 Christmas Eve ad buy on behalf of Mitt Romney. At least it only said nice things about Romney without mentioning the other candidates In […]

Election 2012 – ‘Personhood’ in Iowa; Promises, promises; Conservatives hate on Gingrich.

December 28, 2011

***** PERSONHOOD 1 In an attempt to run an end-around Roe vs Wade, Keith Mason founded a group in 2008 – ‘Personhood USA’. The group is trying to make changes in state Constitutions to imbue ‘personhood’ in blastocysts and even fertilized eggs. In effect it will outlaw abortion, cloning, several contraceptive measures and some infertility […]

Campaign 2012 – Political Money, Super PACs and What Does Science Have To Do With It?

December 27, 2011

***** THE RECESSION For three years we have been searching in vain for the  ‘green shoots’ of an incipient recovery from recession. Finally we may be seeing some. Certainly it pays to be in Iowa. There the Republican candidates have spent more than $10 million on television advertising in December alone – one state and […]

The 2012 race – Republican vs. Republican, Romney’s consensus, Gingrich’s incompetence and Paul’s veracity

December 25, 2011

***** THE SEASON OF DISUNITY It is that time of year when opponents should put aside their differences and celebrate what they have in common. Certainly at the last minute the President, other Democrats, the Senate Republicans and finally the House Republicans came together and extended the payroll tax cut and the unemployment benefits for […]

Christmas – the great American festival for everyone.

December 24, 2011

Christmas is the most significant holiday of the year. It is nominally (literally) a Christian celebration but it touches adherents of all religions and even those with none. Because unlike, Easter for example, Christmas is not just a Christian religious holiday. It is a complex weave of three strands; the Christian family celebration of the […]

Really? 12/23/11 – Is Paul nuts? Does he have company? Which holiday do the Obamas celebrate? Hypocrisy (yet again)

***** WHAT IS RON PAUL’S MENTAL STATE? In Greek mythology Icarus flew too close to the sun, his wings melted, he fell to earth and was killed. This legend is a warning against  hubris and a tale of thwarted ambition. There are many Icaruses running for the Republican Presidential nomination; first Bachmann, then Perry, Cain, […]

***** KEEPING CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS Look out for the other man said Jesus. Love your neighbor. Be a good Samaritan. So what gift does Boehner and the House Republicans have for the working and middle class for the celebration of the birth of the Savior? Coal. Nothing will dissuade them gfrom their crusade to lower […]

Newt Gingrich, now not so high – Why?

December 20, 2011

***** THE LEFT WING MEDIA MADE ME DO IT. Crystal Wright writes in Towhall.com (which, if you enjoy poor reasoning, is the gift that keeps on giving) that Republican voters love Newt Gingrich and that “may explain the Washington Post running multiple articles daily tearing down his candidacy”. Actually if the Post wanted to tear Gingrich down […]
