Trump’s inaugural address.

photoReports from the Trump campaign indicate that Donald Trump is writing his own inaugural address. In this, he his following in his wife, Melania’s, footsteps – in that she reportedly wrote her own speech for the Republican National Convention.

Should this be true, expect to hear much of President Obama first inaugural address regurgitated.

The Russians are hacking, the Russians are hacking.

Donald Trump has dismissed the Russian hacking. He claims there’s no proof. And if there were, how come we didn’t hear anything about it before the election?

And now he demands that “we ought to get on with our lives”. Which is a fine irony coming from a man who can’t shake off any petty slight – real or imagined.

Trump attacked by the “whole age of computer”.

He adds “It’s time for our country to move on to bigger and better things” – although it is hard to imagine what’s bigger than a hostile foreign power interfering in our domestic affairs.

Most sadly, this hacking brouhaha has revealed that our new President is scared by technology. He famously doesn’t use a computer – and he seemingly has no idea what they do. In his words:

“I think that computers have complicated lives very greatly. The whole age of computer has made it where nobody knows exactly what is going on. And we have speed — we have a lot of other things, but I’m not sure we have the kind the security we need.”

The Russian hacking as seen from Florida.

Ted Yoho has the double distinction of being a Tea Party conservative and a Floridian. Like other Republican zealots, he is in the tricky position of wishing to appear firm against foreign interference in America’s affairs  – while toeing the new President’s line of “hacking, what hacking?”.

photoCNN’s Jim Sciutto asked Yoho why he didn’t accept the intelligence community’s assessment that the Russians had hacked the election. Yoho said he was “not thoroughly convinced”. Finally, Yoho allowed that if the evidence showed “without a shadow of a doubt that Russia was involved with this … then yes they need to be held accountable.”

In Florida “stand your ground” laws allow you to shoot someone on the mere suspicion you are in danger. Shouldn’t America have “stand your ground” laws?

Joe Walsh finds his form.

Ex-Representative – and current conservative radio host – Joe Walsh was famous for his rabid anti-Obama stance. After the murder off five Dallas police officers, he was moved to say “This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out Black Lives Matter punks. Real America is coming after you.”

photoLater he tweeted “On November 8th, I’m voting for Trump. On November 9th, if Trump loses, I’m grabbing my musket. You in?” He insisted he wasn’t inciting insurrection. Perhaps he was channeling his boy’s ‘sarcasm’.

Surprisingly, he departed from Trump orthodoxy by demanding a full investigation of the Russian hack.

Not to worry, before the ink was dry on that heresy, he returned to form by claiming that the reason Obama hates Israel is that he is a Muslim.

The Trump Cabinet goes beyond ‘pussy-grabbing’.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller, is interviewing for the US Secretary of Agriculture position. Miller’s profile is higher than that of the typical state Agriculture Secretary. Mainly because of a tweet in which he called Hillary Clinton a ‘cunt’.

screen-shot-2016-12-30-at-6-32-11-pmCalled to account, did Miller have the balls to own his misogyny? Of course not. He deleted the tweet. And his staff blamed that ubiquitous social media hacker – who mysteriously only hacks conservative bigots (so not the Russians). Then they said it was a retweet – it wasn’t. Although, what difference that makes is clear only through a hater’s squint.

Should Miller get the job, he’ll fit right in.

Religion Poisons Everything. Even Atheism.

December 29, 2016

The is nothing more annoying than a debate between an atheist and a true believer. I’m an atheist, and I can feel within myself the smug and poisonous intellectual superiority of being a ‘critical thinker’: a dispassionate observer of the world. Not for me the magic of superstition, the prison of rote, the mindless surrender of intellect […]

Trump’s Victory: A Case Study in Fear.

December 26, 2016

Trump’s win gobsmacked liberals, the media, and no doubt some conservatives. It defied logic. How could people of faith support of a man of no faith – or even moral worth?  How could workers vote for a man who has consistently shafted the little guy? His ascension was propelled by a claim of business smarts despite a […]

Democrats Need to Include Working Whites in their Plans.

December 25, 2016

The Democrats have a reputation for taking people for granted. Minorities complain that Democrats take them for granted and are only interested in minority issues come election time – while white working class workers feel liberals pay attention to them. It is this perceived casual attitude that has turned their erstwhile working class base against Democrats. […]

Trump Is Unqualified. And Because this Is America It’s My Right to Say That.

December 20, 2016

Trump’s acolytes, other Republicans, and even some Democrats tell those opposed to Trump to get over it and accept his victory. Sorry, that’s not going to happen. And it’s hypocritical to ask. Republicans resisted Obama from day one. They established politics as ‘total war’. Let them reap what they have sown. Congressionally there may not be much Democrats […]

The Electoral College Had One Job. It Failed.

December 19, 2016

So now that the Electoral College has given its imprimatur to Donald Trump’s presidency, we have to accept that the Founders’ machinations to prevent the election of an unqualified man to be President have been thwarted. Hamilton, in particular, believed that the Electoral College would provide a bulkhead against the passions of the unwashed masses. […]

Donald Trump: The Dunning-Kruger President

December 18, 2016

The Chinese stole an underwater drone right in front of a US Navy ship, in the South China Sea. Claims to sovereignty over this body of water are many and contentious. Through it moves one-third of the world’s freight. The Chinese are solidifying their domination with a string of man-made islands bristling with weapons. It is […]

The Bible, a Poor Use of Technology.

December 15, 2016

“The Bible has noble poetry in it… and some good morals and a wealth of obscenity, and upwards of a thousand lies.” ― Mark Twain The base nature of the human race is revealed by how it uses its technology. It is a well-acknowledged truth that every technological advance is judged in part by its […]

Is Religion a Force for Evil?

December 11, 2016

Bible thumpers claim that without God there is no morality. Atheists argue that religion is a perversion that inspires its adherents to evil deeds. Is either side right? No. There are good people, and there are bad people. Some of whom are religious and some of whom are not. The only difference is that bad religious folk add […]
