in Really?, Religion

Religion which requires persecution to sustain, it is of the devil’s propagation. – Hosea Ballou.

Eric Walsh - Victim of a witch hunt? Or self-pitying bigot.

Eric Walsh – Victim of a witch hunt? Or self-pitying bigot.

In an unexpected development Georgia’s Department of Public Health rescinded a job offer to Eric Walsh, a Christian public health expert and lay preacher – because he believes homosexuality is a sin, evolution is a “religion created by Satan, and he has scorned Muslims, Catholics, and popular culture.”

In turn, Walsh is accusing Georgia’s Department of Public Health of religious discrimination and retaliation.

Specifically he says that the Department is on a “witch-hunt”. Which is ironic, as the term refers to the actions taken by Walsh’s predecessors in the faith. Men equally intolerant of “others”. He is also using the term incorrectly as the “witches” brought to “justice” where punished for something they weren’t. Whereas Walsh makes no secret that he is a bigot and a scientific illiterate.

God created the Garden Of Eden. Not the Landfill of Eden

It is unfortunate fact that while most religious folk are decent “live and let live” types, it is the fanatics, the bigots, and the intolerant that get all the attention. There are many Christians and people of other faiths, who believe that it is God’s mandate that man look after his creation. Which only makes sense. Why would God create a beautiful planet and the people to live on it – and then watch with approval as those very people treated that planet with such disrespect.

Pat Robertson, and his band of bigots, are eager to lay blame for natural disasters on God’s displeasure with pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU, People For the American Way, and the like. But perhaps it is polluters that God is really pissed at.

I know I said I said it. And I know there is a tape of me saying it. But I was lying and my opponent is a ventriloquist.

I know I said I said it. And I know there is a tape of me saying it. But I was lying and my opponent is a ventriloquist.

If you say something don’t deny it. The chances are it’s on tape. And no matter where you are on the political spectrum no one likes a weasel.

Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-NC) announced in a town hall event in Ballantyne, North Carolina that businesses should have the “freedom” to fire gays. When asked by the Charlotte Observer if he stood by those words, he did. Now political calculation has made those remarks untenable. And Pittenger is denying he said them.

By all means say you have “changed your mind” or your thinking “has evolved” (although that might be a tough sell in the Bible Belt”). But don’t deny the easily provable.

Tony Perkins - helpfully pointing out that Ted Cruz isn't black.

Tony Perkins – helpfully pointing out that Ted Cruz isn’t black.

At the ‘Value Voters Summit” – yet another self-congratulatory, conservative, love-in – the usual suspects peddle their wares before the sanctimonious horde. So far the leading contender for best in show is Ted Cruz. Apparently, he wowed the crowd – in contrast to the lecturing Rand Paul and the curiously unentertaining Rick Santorum.

Cruz was so appreciated by the attendees, that Tony Perkins – President of the Family Research Council, and a bigot’s bigot – was moved to say, He doesn’t kind of shuck and jive, he says what he means”. If you didn’t catch the allusion, you can be sure that the “values” crowd did.
