June 2016

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) is one of the newly-minted Tea Party senators – part of a triad with Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz. He doesn’t like Donald Trump. And won’t endorse him because: “He accused my best friend’s father of conspiring to kill JFK”.

Trump, in one of his finest Ben Carson moments, had said on Fox and Friends:“(Cruz’s) father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald being, you know, shot. I mean the whole thing is ridiculous. What is this, right, prior to his being shot? And nobody even brings it up.”

The accusation was based on a National Enquirer story – so it must be true. Except PolitiFact awarded Trump one of its coveted “pants on fire awards”. His mantlepiece now overflows with those honors.

But showing the weasel character the GOP is well known for, Lee fudged his ‘principled’ stand, with the following nonsense: “What I am saying is Donald Trump can still get a vote from a lot of conservatives like me, but I would like some assurances on where he stands. I would like some assurances that he is going to be a vigorous defender of the U.S. Constitution. That he is not going to be an autocrat. That he is not going to be an authoritarian. That he is not somebody who is going to abuse a document that I have sworn an oath to uphold and protect and defend.”

Hasn’t he been paying attention?

Donald Trump is notoriously cheap. His contributions to charity amount to a sliver of the promised pie. So when he claimed that he was ‘self-funding’ his campaign, those who knew him were skeptical. He did plow $45 million into his campaign. However, he called it a loan. As such he can take the cash he is now collecting from the gullible to repay himself.

Trump, in his usual grandiose manner, pooh-poohed the idea of reimbursement by ostentatiously announcing that he was ‘forgiving’ the loans to the campaign, actually making them a non-refundable donation. Some in the fawning media reported it as a done deal. But until Trump files the paperwork it isn’t. And there is no evidence Trump has filed anything.

All will be revealed by July 20th. That is the due date for Trump’s next election filing. Should he not have changed the money’s status he will have until the end of August to repay himself.

Despite his promises to self-fund, Trump has changed his tune. Not only is he begging for bucks in the US, he has also emailed politicians around the globe. (Note: It is illegal to solicit or accept campaign funds from foreigners)

One British MP had a thoughtful response to Donald Jr’s follow up email:

Brexit: A very Messy Divorce

June 24, 2016

Brexit won. It is safe to say that that was unexpected. The bookies had ‘remain’ odds-on favorite. The currency and stock markets had priced in a ‘remain’ vote. Even Nigel Farage –  leader of the ultra-nationalist party, UKIP and a prominent figure of the ‘leave’ bloc – suggested, as the polls closed, that staying was […]

Evangelicals Bat Their Eyes at Donald Trump.

June 23, 2016

One of the oddities on the 2016 election is why evangelicals are so hot on Donald Trump. It seems an unlikely match between the nominally Christian and a godless man. Trump is a morally corrupt, serial philanderer, with no care for the poor and little evidence of any charitable inclinations. If he has any biblical knowledge, he […]

Donald Trump’s Campaign May Sink in the Harbor.

June 21, 2016

Donald Trump touts his business success. But his campaign more accurately reflects his business failures. He takes pride in his bankruptcies. And now his campaign is following the same cash flow arc his casinos did. Election filings show that he has just $1.3 million on hand. For context, Hillary Clinton has $42 million. The superPAC picture […]

On June 23rd, the British will vote to decide ‘Brexit’. The choice is between staying in the European Union (‘remain’) and leaving (‘leave’). The tides of opinion have shifted back and forth with neither side gaining a clear lead. The momentum seemed to be behind the ‘leave’ forces – until the recent murder of an English […]

Homosexuality is not a sin – no matter what your book says.

June 15, 2016

“In itself, homosexuality is as limiting as heterosexuality: the ideal should be to be capable of loving a woman or a man; either, a human being, without feeling fear, restraint, or obligation.” ― Simone de Beauvoir Homosexuality is not a sin. What possible reason can there be to hate gays – that isn’t pure bigotry? “We […]

Elizabeth Warren kicks Trump’s Ass.

June 11, 2016

The woman Donald Trump refers to as “Pocahontas” has shown she has more balls than the entire Republican Party. She has jabbed le grand orange from the campaign trail. But in a speech to the American Constitution Society, she held nothing back. It was a magnificent, deadly, personal, eviscerating and flaying take down of Donald Trump. It shone […]

June 8, 2016

The media, the Democrats & some Republicans are shocked, just shocked that Donald Trump is continuing to pile on Gonzalo P. Curiel, the judge in his civil fraud trial. Hillary Clinton Takes It to Donald Trump

June 5, 2016

Hillary Clinton broke through this week. Let’s call it her wrecking ball moment. She took on the bully Trump and made him look small. She punched hard and knocked him down. She went where his Republican opponents hadn’t and showed the road to victory. It happened during a foreign policy speech in San Diego. Politicians have to have […]
