The (unAmerican) Value Voters Summit.

The Value Voters Summit is one in a series of Orwellian named conservative/Christian love fests. This time around the sanctimonious have descended on DC to spew the de rigueur homophobic, xenophobic, racist misogyny they so enjoy. There will be the typical Obama derangement – familiar fingers pointed at the usual suspects.

These Pharisees will congratulate themselves on their flag-pin patriotism and intimacy with the divine. The air will be redolent with hypocrisy. Hillary will be hanged in effigy. And Trump lauded as God’s choice to lead the Hebrews out of the desert.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) started the unicorn hunt by claiming his experience in the private sector qualified him as an expert on abortion legislation.

The lunacy continued. Scott suggested a vote for Trump was a vote for ‘hope’. Scott, once a Rubio man, had previously said Trump’s take down of a Mexican-American judge was “racially toxic”. But that was then, and now Trump is the ‘no matter how evil, at least he’s not Hillary’ candidate. And Scott swoons.

The Value Voters Summit attracts the demented. And no one does demented better than Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX). Gohmert is a contender for ‘America’s Dumbest Congressman’ – and at the VVS he didn’t disappoint. His opening act was to say that Hillary Clinton “has made clear she is mentally impaired” adding, “There is [sic] special needs there”. Note: Republicans politicians are all closet psychiatrists – self-anointed experts in diagnosis from afar.

It gets worse. Gohmert reminded the congregation that he was ‘right’ about the 2009 Matthew Shepard hate crimes act, He had said it would make the US a new Nazi Germany; legalize pedophilia, bestiality, and necrophilia; and inspire persecution against Christians. Facts be damned, Gohmert didn’t share any evidence showing that he was right.

And how disastrous did he say a Clinton presidency would be? In his words, “Your religious freedom will be gone, your freedom of speech will be gone”. Really? You can get these people to shut up.

Sandy Rios makes sure that the women are represented. This spokeswoman for the American Family Association sees threats to Christians under every bed. In her estimation, Christians will be barred from college for having the wrong opinions. Adding, “Those of you that name the name of Christ will have trouble finding jobs.”

Jon Voigt is a reliable voice of unreason. He introduced Donald Trump to the Value Voters as God’s candidate “I can only feel if God allows truth to be said and heard that we will see Donald Trump as the next president of this great America and he will lift the dark cloud that hovers over us now.”

And then the man of the hour took the stage. Donald Trump discovered his inner preacher and proved that he will say anything to ingratiate thimself. Without shame, he gave the audience their God on toast,

“We’re all equal and we all come from same Creator. There’s a biblical verse that I’ve often read and I want to repeat it again because I think it is so important to what we’re trying to achieve right now for our country. It’s from 1 John: 4: No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.”

Then he assured these poor persecuted Christians that their guy would reign inviolate, “Imagine what our country could accomplish if we started working together as one people, under one God, saluting one flag,”

Don’t you just want to take a shower?
