“Is Trump a racist?” is the wrong question. After all, he had to promise not to discriminate against minorities to settle a housing suit brought by the Feds in 1973. The right question is: “Has Trump proved he is not a racist?” The answer is no. And you can ask “the Blacks”, as Trump unempathetically groups African-Americans.

The ‘Central Park Five’.

In 1989, five youths – 4 black and 1 Hispanic – were arrested, tried and convicted of rape and attempted murder of a 28-year-old woman in Central Park, NY. The sole evidence was their confessions – which the 14 & 15 year-olds said were coerced – a claim supported by DNA evidence. Nevertheless, Trump spent $85,000 on full page ads in 4 NYC newspapers demanding the death penalty and singling out crimes committed in the Park.

In 2002, the five were exonerated. Another man admitted to the crime – an admission the DNA evidence supported.

But Trump maintained they were guilty, pointing to their confessions – ignoring that the police are capable of convincing innocent people to say what the police want to hear. He also claimed there was other evidence and that “these young men do not exactly have the pasts of angels”. There was no other evidence, and none of the five had been arrested before. Why this persistent lying in the face of facts? Do I have to ask?

We all know that in Trump’s mind Mexican immigrants are “rapists”. And American judges who have Hispanic names are actually “Mexican”.

He implied the Muslim Gold Star mother of a slain US Army captain – silent in her support of her husband – must belong to an oppressive faith: “maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say”.

On the other hand, he considers Jews stereotypical money-grubbers. As he said to the Republican Jewish Coalition, “Is there anyone who doesn’t renegotiate deals in this room?” And, “The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”

Protesting NFL players – all black – are “those sons of bitches”.

Whites, on the other hand, get the benefit of the doubt from Trump. He gave David Duke a pass, feigned ignorance of white supremacists, and after Charlottesville said among NeoNazis there are some “very fine people”.

Trump has a hair trigger when it comes to condemning people of color. But he waited days before saying bad things about white nationalists, because he didn’t want to, in his words,  “just make a statement for the sake of making a political statement. I want to know the facts”. Facts? Pull the other one.

San Juan Mayor, Carmen Yulin Cruz

Now, in the aftermath of Maria, he is berating the Mayor of San Juan and the people of Puerto Rico. The mayor because she has “Such poor leadership ability”. Who, along with others, “are not able to get their workers to help”. Saying they “want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort”. Statements rendered ridiculous by images of a mayor up to her waist in filthy water and civilians helping each other.

But lazy minorities asking for handouts is a conservative meme since forever and given solidity by Reagan’s “welfare queen”. And Trump isn’t about to let a useful piece of bigotry go to waste.

Trump Has His Worst Week Since Last Week

September 27, 2017

This morning, Trump deleted his tweets supporting Luther Strange in the Alabama Senate GOP primary. It’s the closest he will get to acknowledging he made a mistake. But he isn’t taking responsibility. Instead, he is whitewashing history and blaming Mitch McConnell. Regardless, Strange is a huge failure in a week of failures – and it’s only Wednesday. […]

‘Not to Worry’ Trump Tells America. ‘I May Appear to Be Doing Nothing, But I’m Working Hard.’

September 26, 2017

Accused of ignoring Puerto Rico, healthcare, North Korea, etc. Trump says the NFL/anthem/kneeling brouhaha has not distracted him from his responsibilities. And anyway, it’s an important part of his job. “To me the NFL situation is a very important situation. I’ve heard that before about — ‘was I preoccupied?’ — not at all,” said Trump. […]

Partial Graham-Cassidy CBO Score: Millions Lose Their Health Insurance.

September 25, 2017

In the GOP’s pell-mell rush to pass an Obamacare repeal, there has been no time for what John McCain calls ‘regular order’ — in which bills are debated, and a full CBO score calculated. Nevertheless, the CBO has managed to issue a partial analysis of the Graham-Cassidy offering. And to no one’s surprise, it is brutal. Millions would lose their […]

The ‘Son of a Bitch’ is a Greater American than Kremlin Don.

September 23, 2017

America is greatest when she overcomes her wrongs.  As she did with emancipation. And with the recognition of worker rights, women’s rights, consumer rights, civil rights, gay rights. But the path to greatness has had switchbacks, and progress has been slow. Today unarmed black Americans are still shot dead by cops. American minorities are still disproportionately […]

Is the GOP’s Latest Sadism (aka the Obamacare Repeal Effort) Dead?

September 22, 2017

The Cassidy/Graham bill, the GOP’s latest attempt to repeal Obamacare is godawful. So vile that few Republicans have spoken well about it. And the few that have, had to lie to support their laughable point of view. There is little evidence that the majority of Republican Senators even know what’s in it. Certainly, there has been no debate […]

The Trump Administration Hires Big Boobs.

September 21, 2017

In the Mad Man era — as the joke has it — the executive needed a new secretary. He interviewed the candidates. After asking them wide-ranging questions about their abilities, education, and experience, he hired the one with the biggest boobs. And so it is in the Trump administration. Ability, education and experience count for little. […]

Price, Pruitt & Mnuchin Preaching Prudence but Living Large On the Taxpayer’s Tab.

September 20, 2017

Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price is a deficit hawk. As a congressman, no aspect of government waste was beyond his lash. Now he’s revealed — and is anyone surprised? — as a hypocrite of the highest order. In one three-day stretch, he took five private jets on the taxpayer’s nickel — $60,000 worth […]

Monday Night Socialism – The Debt the NFL Owes to Karl Marx.

September 18, 2017

Baseball might call itself “America’s Pastime”  — but the big money is in the NFL. And there’s the irony. In this capitalist paradise, the most watched sports league is unabashedly socialist. Take revenues. The majority of the league’s income comes from TV —  which is divided equally — with no regard to performance. As is the […]
