Lindsey Graham comes out against education.

Margaret Brennan, the host of Face the Nation, asked Sen. Lindsey Graham how he felt about Trump’s declaration of a state of emergency diverting funds from the construction of a middle school in Kentucky to fund his wall.

He replied “I would say it’s better for the middle school kids in Kentucky to have a secure border. We’ll get them the school they need, but right now, we’ve got a national emergency on our hands.”

In Graham’s mind, the border will stop opioids from coming to the US. But imagine you are the rare drug trafficker that has mules humping your product cross country. You are sitting on millions and making millions. A wall pops up in front of you. Are you going to quit the business or come up with another route?

Compelled patriotism isn’t patriotism

An 11-year-old student was arrested after refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and allegedly telling a teacher that “the flag is racist and the national anthem is offensive to black people”.

The school doesn’t require students to say the pledge. But the substitute teacher took matters into her own hands. The situation escalated. Words were spoken. The authorities lost control. And a boy misses three days of school. (Read the whole story here: NY Post)

Gun violence is a national emergency

Gary Martin, 45, was a resident of Aurora, Il. He had at least six prior arrests for domestic violence and traffic offenses. He also had a 1995 felony conviction in Mississippi for aggravated assault. All of which disqualified him from owning a gun.

But he was allowed to buy a gun after a background check failed to reveal his criminal history. He later applied for a concealed-carry permit which required him to give fingerprints. The Illinois State Police denied his application and demanded he turn the gun over. He didn’t.

Then last Friday he took the same gun into the workplace he was being fired from and shot five employees of the Henry Pratt Co. dead and injured five responding cops.

If the government wants to keep Americans safe, it should spend money on better record keeping and follow up when criminals are known to have guns. (Courtesy: Vox)

Rush Limbaugh advises Trump.

Here’s one of today’s Trump tweets:

It’s nice to have a Goebbels. But what Rush doesn’t cover is which crimes “these guys. the investigators” should be locked up for. Unlike the investigators who know precisely which crimes Trump’s criminal confreres should go to jail for.

The Supreme Court Stays a Louisiana Abortion Law. It Is Likely a Brief Reprieve for Choice.

February 9, 2019

On Thursday the Supreme Court voted to stay a Louisiana law that would have required abortion clinics in the state to have admitting rights at a hospital within 30 miles. Pro-choice advocates argued this would have left the state with one abortion clinic. The good news may be only temporary for women in the Pelican State. The Court did not […]
